PETITIONER: Amy Nadia binti Che Rosadi
PETITION NO: WA-18-915-05/2024
BEFORE: Her Ladyship HAYATUL AKMAL BINTI ABDUL AZIZ
DATE: March 14, 2025
MOVER: Mr Soong Hou Ming
I, Soong Hou Ming appear on behalf of your humble Petitioner and my learned friends who represent the Right Honorable Attorney General of Malaysia, the Malaysian Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee which have been introduced
1 If it pleases Your Ladyship, may I have the honor of introducing your humble petitioner, Amy Nadia binti Che Rosadi.
2 Your petitioner was born in a small rural village in Tumpat, Kelantan. She is the fourth child in a family with an all-star lineup of daughters, born to the loving couple, Encik Che Rosadi bin Che Ibrahim and the late Puan Nordiana binti Yassin. May I seek leave to introduce your petitioner’s father, who is present in court today?
3 My Lady, your petitioner is but a simple girl from a modest background, raised in a small fishing village. If someone had told this little girl that one day she would be standing here, in the presence of this honorable court, to be robed and admitted as an advocate and solicitor, she would have never believed it.
4 But fate has its way, and now here she stands, having taken her first step in her journey. She graduated with honors from the prestigious University of Malaya (UM) with a Bachelor of Laws degree.
5 Since your petitioner was a child, her mother always told her, “Yaya, anak ibu, sambung cita-cita ibu nak jadi lawyer.” At that young age, she did not even need to fully understand what a lawyer was. She just thought, “If Mum says lawyer, then lawyer it is!” My Lady, no cross-examination questions asked, no objections raised!
6 So, what had once been her mother’s dream became hers. The path leading to where she is today has not been an easy one. But your petitioner is blessed to have countless wonderful people in her life, too many to name in this brief time, but to whom she is eternally grateful.
7 My Lady, your petitioner is such a bright and positive individual, and she will tell you she has a secret weapon. All the sleepless nights spent studying, all the blood, sweat, and tears shed along the way—through pain, joy, disappointment, and triumph—never weighed her down.
8 Her strength comes from knowing she is never alone, especially with the love and support of her family—Kak Bella, Kak Sha, Wawa, Kak Leen, Adik, and Dikya—and, of course, her loyal law school comrades, Maryam, Farisa, and Farrah.
9 Subsequently in May 2024, your petitioner took another significant step in her legal journey and began her 9 months’ pupillage at Messrs Alex Chang & Co., under the guidance of my learned friend, Mr. Alex Chang Huey Wah.
10 When asked to describe her master, she would say that Mr. Chang is a master who would always offer whatever he had to his pupils- If he had two of something, he would give one to them without hesitation. And if he only had one, he would break it in half, offering part of it even if it meant having less for himself and that sums up what kind of master he is.
11 He was generous, humble, and kind, and your petitioner will forever be indebted to him. The vast knowledge, advocacy skills, and experience Mr. Chang possesses never fail to impress her. Law is a challenging field, but your petitioner has learned so much by shadowing him in court, attending meetings with clients, and seizing the constant learning opportunities provided by not just her pupil master but also the legal associate who she looked up to, Miss Lim Wen Mi.
12 Your petitioner would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at the firm, including Miss Chow, Miss Janice, Miss Elaine and Lew, as well as her ride-or-die best friends, Mia and Amira, without whom she would not have made it through.
13 Despite all the hardships she faced, your petitioner is proud to stand here today, having braved it all, grown stronger and a little wiser. But again fate has its own way of making itself known.
14 My Lady, in late December, 2024, just one month away from completing her pupillage, her beloved mother—the pillar of her strength and her first love—was taken from her by a heart attack, after battling illness for months under the care of her loving husband. Words cannot adequately express the heartbreak your petitioner endured upon losing her mother.
15 Today, in the presence of her master, family, and friends, your petitioner stands before Your Ladyship, ready to take the final and biggest step in her legal journey—to finally fulfill the promise she made to her mother. And in this beautiful and auspicious month of Ramadhan, your petitioner can only look to the heavens with all her love and longing—and say, “Yaya laksanakan janji dan tanggungjawab yaya kepada ibu. Yaya hanya mampu berharap ibu dan daddy bangga dengan yaya.”
I humbly pray that the Petitioner, Amy Nadia binti Che Rosadi be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
JUDGE TO GIVE ORDER
May I seek leave from this Honourable Court for Mr Alex Chang, the Petitioner’s Pupil Master, to robe The Petitioner. Much obliged My Lady.
