PETITIONER: Lew Jun Man
PETITION NO: WA-18-1976-11/2023
BEFORE: His Lordship Dato’ Wan Ahmad Farid Bin Wan Salleh
DATE: November 1, 2024
MOVER: Miss Megan Lim Soo Zee
If it pleases you My Lord,
1 The Petitioner was born in 2000, Kuala Lumpur and is the eldest son of Mr. Lew Jong Hing and Madam Yip Wei Wei. His grandparents, Mr Lew Koon Cheng and Madam Kwok Kwai Chu are also present today. My Lord, I crave leave for them to be introduced.
2 The Petitioner received his secondary School’s education from Methodist Boys’ School. The Petitioner originally intended to further pursue his studies in IT or become a pilot in the aviation industry. However, the aviation industry was heavily impacted by the MCO during that time. Upon the recommendation of his friends, Mr. Jason Yaw and Mr. How Wen Jiun, the Petitioner decided to pursue law, marking the beginning of his legal journey. It seems The Petitioner changed his dream of high flyer to that of a high flying lawyer.
3 The Petitioner joined Messrs Alex Chang & Co in 2021 for two weeks, as an online attachment student during Year 2 of his law degree. That experience planted the seed in his mind that Mr Alex Chang is a good and caring mentor.
4 The Petitioner graduated in year 2022. While The Petitioner was studying for his Certificate in Legal Practice examination, he worked as a full-time conveyancing clerk at JM Chong, Vincent Chee & Co. for the first 6 months of the CLP course. Miraculously, The Petitioner successfully passed his CLP examination in his first sitting.
5 I recall that I was also working full time and passed the CLP in the first sitting, I did not have such good luck as I was not offered a pupillage position during my first interview with our Master Mr Alex Chang, Mr Chang only made an offer to me some two months later.
6 The Petitioner proceeded to read in the chambers of Mr Alex Chang Huey Wah from Messrs Alex Chang & Co.
7 During his pupillage, The Petitioner realised that the path to become a legal professional is not an easy path. However, he will never forget the lessons taught by Mr. Alex Chang: even when you are facing multiple setbacks and challenges, perseverance is the key to success. No matter how arduous or challenging the journey may be, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Your Petitioner links the teachings he received in chambers to a quote by Plato: “The first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself; to be conquered by yourself is of all things most shameful and vile,”.
8 The Petitioner like many pupils and attachment students of our Master Mr Alex Chang assisted Mr Chang in court, these experiences further fueled The Petitioner’s passion in the legal profession. Another important lesson that The Petitioner learned from our master, Mr Alex Chang is that as a lawyer you are not fighting for yourself, you are also fighting for someone who believes in you, assisting people in need to enforce their rights. It is a noble profession.
9 The Petitioner would like to thank our pupil master, Mr Alex Chang for providing him with all the opportunities and guidance throughout his pupillage. The Petitioner wishes to express his utmost gratitude and appreciation to his colleagues in Messrs Alex Chang & Co: Ms Lim Wen Mi, Ms Elaine, Ms Chow, Ms Janice and his pupil mate Ms Amy for their guidance and assistance during the 9 months of pupilage. Special thanks go to Ms. Janice for her delicious home-cooked lunches, which were truly the best.
10 The Petitioner also wishes to seize this opportunity to record his utmost appreciation to his parents, Mr Lew Jong Hing and Madam Yip Wei Wei, and his other family members for their unconditional financial and moral support. No words can ever describe how grateful The Petitioner is for having such a supportive and understanding family.
11 Further, The Petitioner would also like to thank his friends for their support and help: Mr Jason Yaw, Mr How Wen Jiun and Mr Ong Chun Heng as well as everyone who has helped him throughout his journey to this day.
12 I believe The Petitioner is a fit and proper person to be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate & Solicitor, all the papers are in order and the relevant bodies have no objections. Therefore, I humbly pray that The Petitioner be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
ORDER
May I seek leave from this Honourable Court for Mr Alex Chang, the Petitioner’s Pupil Master, to robe The Petitioner.
Much obliged My Lord.
