Pupillage Speeches

If it pleases you My Lord/ Ladu, I Lim Soo Zee appear for Your Humble Petitioner.

My Lord/ Lady,
May I introduce the Petitioner, YAP WIL LIAM,
The Petitioner was born and raised in the capital of the state of Negeri Sembilan, Seremban.
The Petitioner is the eldest child in the family, brought up by his parents, Mr. Yap Kiat On and Madam Chen Kim Lan who are both present here today, may I seek leave for them to be recognised.

My Lord/ Lady,
I crave leave for Your Petitioner’s parents to be introduced.

My Lord/ Lady,
Your Petitioner received his secondary School’s education from Chung Hua High School Seremban. Your Petitioner chose art stream in his final year of his secondary school’s education. However, Your Petitioner later found out that he is not gifted with the talent to draw a Sunflower. It was at that time, Your Petitioner has changed his mind and wanted to be a lawyer instead of becoming someone like Vincent van Gogh.

After the Chung Hua High School, he read laws at the University of Northumbria and graduated in year 2019 with upper second-class Honours. He then completed the Bar Professional Training Course at the same university in year 2021 and proceeded to read in the chambers of my learned pupil master Mr Alex Chang Huey Wah from Messrs Alex Chang & Co. I am sure that Your Petitioner received the best tutelage and guidance that a pupil could possibly get from any master.

My Lord/ Lady,
On this special occasion, Your Petitioner would like to express his gratitude to his parents and his dearest brother, Mr Yap Kel Vin for their unwavering support and encouragement. Without them, he would never make it through. Your Petitioner is blessed to have his family members who are always by his side whenever he needed them. Your Petitioner hope that his parents will be proud of his achievement today to be the first lawyer in the family.
The Petitioner would also like to thank his pupil master, Mr Alex Chang for providing him with all the opportunities and guidance throughout his pupillage. Your Petitioner is grateful of Mr Chang’s willingness to share all his knowledge and it was an eye opener for your petitioner to learn about the art of advocacy, persuasion, negotiation, and most importantly, about Company Law.

My Lord/Lady,
The Petitioner will forget section 468(2) of the Companies Act 2016 which he witnessed, assisted and involved in the hearing of the High Court, the Court of Appeal and finally to the Federal Court, together with Mr. Alex Chang and Miss Lim. To add to this momentous event, the final decision ruled in their favour and later become a reported case on an important aspect of law. The Petitioner cherish this as the most exultant moment of his pupillage at Messrs Alex Chang & Co..

My Lord/Lady,
On this memorable day, the Petitioner would like to specially thank to his friends who studied together with him in the UK, namely Zini, KaiXiang, Mei Xuan, Pui Ying, Wallace, Ryan, James, Jinn, Juo Yong, Xandy and all others who were there for him.

The Petitioner would like to thank all his colleagues at Messrs Alex Chang & Co., Miss Lim, Miss Janice, Miss Chow, Miss Elaine and Deryl for their patient guidance and assistance.

My Lord/ Lady,

I believe Your Petitioner is a fit and proper person to be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate & Solicitor, all the papers are in order and the relevant bodies have no objections. Therefore I humbly pray that Your Petitioner be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. I am obliged.
