A tribute to Tan Sri Soong Siew Hoong 2025

Rotary News

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tan Sri Soong Siew Hoong, one of the last serving charter members of the Rotary Club of Pudu. His life was a shining testament to Rotary’s ideals of “Service Above Self,” and his century-long journey inspired generations of Rotarians.

Tan Sri Soong was not only a dedicated Rotarian but also a distinguished leader in Malaysia’s business and civic landscape, embodying integrity, service, and fellowship in all that he did.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, the Rotary Club of Pudu established the “Tan Sri Soong Siew Hoong’s Vocational Scholarship” last year, shortly after his 100th birthday. This lasting initiative reflects his lifelong commitment to uplifting others through education, skills, and opportunity.

I will always cherish his unique generosity. On one occasion during a meal, he looked at me with a smile and said, “It is illegal for you to pay for the meal here.” Another time, when I asked him the secret to his clear mind and sterling health, he simply answered, “Bak Kut Teh.”

His wisdom, humour, and selfless dedication will long be remembered. Rotary Pudu and the wider Rotary family mourn his loss, even as we celebrate the immense legacy he has left behind.
We honour his memory with gratitude, and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
