I was fortunate to have Mr Chang as my mentor,\u00a0\u00a0 a meticulous counsel,\u00a0\u00a0 who\u00a0 grasps the\u00a0 issues at hand\u00a0 in a blink\u00a0 and presents\u00a0 his analysis and solutions.\u00a0\u00a0 His precision in the use of the language\u00a0 is simply awesome and\u00a0 admirable.<\/p>\n
My learned friend and a former intern of Alex Chang & Co, Miss Jessy Wan\u00a0 strongly encouraged me to join\u00a0 the internship\/\u00a0 attachment program.\u00a0\u00a0 Initially\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I thought I could not\u00a0 due to some personal constrains.\u00a0 Nonetheless, it seems that it was pre-arranged by the Almighty for me to meet my mentor\u00a0 through a chanced social event organised by the Brickfields Asia College\u00a0\u00a0 (BAC)\u00a0 Mooting Society.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One of the organisers of the event was none other than\u00a0 Miss Low Kar Yeen who was one of the interns\u00a0 too…<\/p>\n
That meeting with Mr Chang in person changed my mind and I reserved a month for the internship program. I knew I was destined to be here.<\/p>\n
All interns went through an interview before admission. With so many interns vying for placements, I truly understand why that interview was out of the ordinary. I was stunned by\u00a0\u00a0 the questions from\u00a0 by Mr Chang,\u00a0\u00a0 they were designed with a well guarded secret\u00a0 purpose.<\/p>\n
Alex Chang & Co is a\u00a0 boutique legal firm which specializes in company law, particularly in companies winding-up and debt recovery.\u00a0\u00a0 Mr Chang himself\u00a0 a\u00a0 pioneer in his field of work.\u00a0 Being accepted as an intern widened my perspective as we observed first hand how work is orchestrated and fine-tuned to perfection. Such\u00a0\u00a0 experience no textbooks or lectures could deliver.<\/p>\n
The most exciting\u00a0 experience\u00a0\u00a0 was\u00a0 to witness an execution held in a condominium in Damansara, where the items\u00a0\u00a0 seized\u00a0 by the bailiff\u00a0\u00a0 were\u00a0 unlawfully removed\u00a0 by the\u00a0 tenant, in\u00a0 contempt of the court order.\u00a0 I am informed that a warrant of arrest was issued.<\/p>\n
The in-house mooting\u00a0 taught us how a litigator would draft a submission, brainstorming issues and come up with multiple solutions.\u00a0 Court deportment and etiquette\u00a0 are something few interns will experience.\u00a0\u00a0 Phrases from my mentor such as \u201cwe cook what\u2019s on the table\u201d and \u201clawyers do not speculate\u201d etched into my mind.<\/p>\n
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone in Alex Chang & Co for their patience and understanding. Ms. Janice and Ms. Chow, I would like to thank you for your guidance and tolerance.
