Alex Chang Huey Wah, appear for Your Petitioner, NG HOONG RU and my learned friend\u00a0 representing the Attorney General, has already been introduced earlier.\u00a0\u00a0 For this petition Mr Yong Chin Shiung will appear for the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee.<\/p>\n
My Lord, Allow me a few minutes to introduce your Petitioner, to all concerned.<\/p>\n
Your Petitioner was born\u00a0 in Kuala Lumpur, read laws\u00a0 at the Oxford Brookes University, in England.\u00a0 He then proceeded to obtain\u00a0 the Certificate in Legal Practice\u00a0\u00a0 in October\u00a0 2015. I often ask the Young Petitioners whether it was their first wish to study laws.\u00a0\u00a0 Your petitioner confessed that it was never Your Petitioner\u2019s dream to become a lawyer and the reason he decided to study law was also not a noble one.\u00a0 He was actually persuaded\u00a0 by his parents to read laws. However, today he can proudly stand here and say that he has finally done it.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Then he says he can do his own things Now…<\/p>\n
So what was his first love?
\nYour petitioner first interest\u00a0 was and still\u00a0 is psychology.\u00a0 My Lord he did not want to be a lawyer, he knows that the eminent members of the Bar\u00a0 will be elevated to the bench as a judge to hear cases…\u00a0 he Did not\u00a0 want to wait 18 years, he wanted to\u00a0 be a psychologist to hear cases right from the beginning of his career…<\/p>\n
He likes to read people\u2019s mind and help people to recognise small details that they do not usually notice so that people\u00a0 may\u00a0 understand\u00a0 their Own inner workings better.\u00a0 When he was\u00a0 reading laws, he was often\u00a0 fascinated\u00a0 by the case studies that\u00a0 touched\u00a0 upon the\u00a0 psychological side of the parties.<\/p>\n
Your petitioner then slowly developed a deep passion for law and came to realise how important it is to study law as it affects every part of our lives.<\/p>\n
His conclusion about our profession is after his pupillage is quite interesting:\u00a0 \u2018There is no right answer, just a convincing one.\u2019<\/p>\n
Your\u00a0 Petitioner read in the chambers of my learned friend\u00a0 Mr. HONG KIM PIOW of\u00a0 Messrs Anuar Hong & Ong.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 His pupil master\u00a0\u00a0 is incidentally\u00a0\u00a0 his beloved\u00a0 uncle, his uncle’s unrighteousness gave him\u00a0 much inspiration in life from a young tender age.\u00a0 Your\u00a0 Petitioner wishes to express his utmost gratitude and appreciation to his uncle and\u00a0 pupil master for his undying patience and guidance during the 9 months of pupilage.<\/p>\n
Allow me to\u00a0 share a secret of why the word ‘undying’ was used, it means my learned friend\u00a0 Mr Hong almost died tutoring\u00a0 him…<\/p>\n
My Lord, On this memorable day for your Petitioner, he would like to take this opportunity to record his appreciation to his father, Mr. KENNETH NG HOOI PING and mother Madam JENNIFER HONG GEOK KUAN\u00a0 and brother Mr. ANSON NG (his beloved mother and brother are here today)\u00a0 whose unconditional love and support had shaped your\u00a0 Petitioner into the person he is today.<\/p>\n
My Lord, I believe that the papers are in order and that the Petitioner is a fit and proper person, to be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.\u00a0 I\u00a0 also believe that there are no objections from the\u00a0 relevant bodies.
\nTherefore, I humbly pray\u00a0 for an order in terms.
