{"id":3556,"date":"2016-07-05T15:38:48","date_gmt":"2016-07-05T07:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alexchanglaw.com\/?p=3556"},"modified":"2016-07-30T20:02:24","modified_gmt":"2016-07-30T12:02:24","slug":"courier-service-phone-scam-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alexchanglaw.com\/index.php\/courier-service-phone-scam-china\/","title":{"rendered":"The Courier and Parcel Phone Scam Fraud From China, [2016] ACCEJ 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alexchanglaw.com\/index.php\/courier-service-phone-scam-china\/49305598-middle-women-undergoing-suspicious-phone\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3565\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3565\" src=\"http:\/\/alexchanglaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Courier-rf-49305598_s-W-200x300.jpeg\" alt=\"49305598 - middle women undergoing suspicious phone\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><strong>Recently the Singapore Police Force<\/strong> recorded a video starring Comedian Hossan Leong \u00a0(for the video: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/singapore\/comedian-hossan-leong\/2927286.html\" target=\"_blank\">Channel News Asia<\/a>,) to raise awareness of a phone scam that caused Singaporean victims <b><i>a lost of more than S$4 millions since March 2016<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0 The phone scam\u00a0 became viral in Singapore whereby \u00a0the scammers will\u00a0 impersonate officials from the\u00a0 \u00a0police, customs \u00a0\u00a0or a \u00a0courier company. \u00a0\u00a0Potential victims were told that they must send \u00a0monies to an overseas bank account as\u00a0 a price for the officers to &#8216;remain silence&#8217;\u00a0 since the parcel sent to them contained \u00a0\u00a0unlawful items.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0\u00a0 phone call will \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0direct us to some Mandarin speaking persons. \u00a0As reported by a leading newspaper in\u00a0Singapore, the scammer will ask the victims for their names and bank account details or require the person to transfer money to a foreign account.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>HIT THE SHORES OF MALAYSIA<\/h3>\n<p>Recently, this\u00a0\u00a0 phone scam\u00a0 hit the shores of Malaysia. \u00a0Our Mr Chang\u00a0\u00a0 received a\u00a0 phone call \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from Chongqing, China that a parcel in his name has been confiscated and required\u00a0 payment before the parcel will be delivered.<\/p>\n<p>He was already alerted to \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0this \u00a0\u00a0scam \u00a0\u00a0by his friends from Singapore.\u00a0 Therefore he \u00a0instead\u00a0 asked the person on the line what are the names of the recipient and the sender of the parcel.\u00a0 The caller promptly gave some excuses and hung up.<\/p>\n<p>The Singapore courier, SingPost said it was aware of the scam and a spokesman from DHL admitted that they received more than 200 reports of the phone scams daily.
