Admission Speech of Miss Koh Suan Suan as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya<\/p>\n

BEFORE TUAN ABANG ISKANDAR BIN ABANG HASHIM (RKKK 1)<\/p>\n

If it pleases you My Lord\u00a0 Alex Chang Huey Wah, appear for your humble petitioner Koh Suan Suan.<\/p>\n

The relevant bodies have already been introduced.<\/p>\n

My Lord, allow me a few minutes to\u00a0\u00a0 introduce your\u00a0 Petitioner, Koh Suan Suan to all concerned.<\/p>\n

Your Petitioner is from a small town called Sitiawan, Perak and she has two brothers and she is the only daughter of her proud parents\u00a0 Mr. Koh Liong Hock and Madam Ding Geok Lian.<\/p>\n

It\u00a0 was\u00a0 never your\u00a0 Petitioner\u2019s dream to\u00a0 become a lawyer and\u00a0 the reason\u00a0 she decided\u00a0 to\u00a0 study law is also not a noble one.\u00a0\u00a0 It is just simply her humble wish\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 in getting\u00a0 involved in something she called \u201cgrandeur\u201d,\u00a0 something\u00a0\u00a0 that she imagined\u00a0 her parents will say \u201cwow\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 It was only during the second\u00a0 year of\u00a0 pursuing\u00a0 law\u00a0 degree in\u00a0 INTI\u00a0\u00a0 International College\u00a0 that\u00a0 she started to develop a keen\u00a0\u00a0 interest in law. It was the subject called Equity and Trust\u00a0 taught by Ms. Sharlini where the Petitioner learnt that law can be very tricky and exciting.\u00a0\u00a0 My Lord, for rest of the day after I\u00a0 met her, I must\u00a0 admit that I wondered why Equity and Trust, I thought it should\u00a0 have been Mrs May Donoghue\u00a0\u00a0 and the half decomposed snail that excited her…<\/p>\n

She\u00a0 was quick to admit that she was\u00a0 never a clever\u00a0 student,\u00a0 but MLF Kwong Esq. her master wd strenuously disagree.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She told me to earn a LLB Honours from the University of Hull\u00a0 she had\u00a0\u00a0 sleepless nights, tears,\u00a0 trials and tribulations.\u00a0\u00a0 Building on the LLB, she pursued an LLM in International Laws\u00a0 in the\u00a0 same University in 2008.<\/p>\n

Apart from laws, My Lord I has to coax her to tell us her hobby.\u00a0\u00a0 Your Petitioners has a\u00a0 very special hobby.\u00a0\u00a0 After she got tired of\u00a0 collecting\u00a0 stamps, she went on a watches appreciation spree.\u00a0 She likes\u00a0 \u201cSee through\u201d\u00a0 watches in\u00a0 particular the complicated\u00a0\u00a0 movements\u00a0 of the tourbillon, the cogs and wheels inside the watches.<\/p>\n

Prior to reading in the chambers of Mr Kwong, had the privilege to be\u00a0 attached\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to Siew & Partners under the guidance of Ms. Yvonne Siew\u00a0 and\u00a0\u00a0 M\/s SB Teh & Ho under the guidance of Ms. Teh Seng Bian\u00a0 She told me that she learnt a lot from them\u00a0 that no textbook can teach.<\/p>\n

Thereafter your Petitioner began her pupillage in Messrs\u00a0 Azman Davidson & Co under the\u00a0 tutelage of her\u00a0\u00a0 Master and my very good friend Mr. Paul Kum Wah Kwong.<\/p>\n

My Lord,
\nOn this special day, your\u00a0 Petitioner wishes to express her gratitude and appreciation to her beloved parents, Mr. Koh\u00a0 Liong Hock and Madam Ding Geok Lian\u00a0 who are present today and her brothers, Koh Young Seng and Koh Yong Cheng for their love, affection and encouragement given unconditionally at all times.<\/p>\n

The Petitioner would also like to thank the lawyers, lawyers- to-be and staff of Messrs Azman Davidson & Co particularly Mr. Paul Kum Wah Kwong, for their invaluable guidance and support during her pupilage, which paved the way for the Petitioner to begin her career in law.<\/p>\n

The Petitioner would also like to thank all the lecturers that\u00a0 taught her.\u00a0 Not to forget her friends that suffered together with her the late nights, well, My Lord, she assured me that\u00a0\u00a0 not all late nights were spent at\u00a0 the library, as I understand now\u00a0 My Lord the word\u00a0 “Library” has taken a branch new
\nmeaning in KL.\u00a0 She wants me to mention these Library mates Lim Ching Ching, Karen Oh Siew Boon, Leong Yit Chia, Hee E Yin and Ching Man San.\u00a0\u00a0 I note here My Lord that all her library mates are young ladies.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, the Petitioner wishes to thank her\u00a0 boyfriend, colleagues and friends who are here today\u00a0 in this Court.<\/p>\n

I verily\u00a0 believe that Your Petitioner\u2019s papers are in order, she is a\u00a0 Fit and proper person to\u00a0 be admitted and enrolled,\u00a0 and the relevant bodies have no objections.<\/p>\n

Wherefore I humbly pray that Petitioner\u00a0 be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.\u00a0 I am obliged.<\/p>\n

I seek leave from this Honourable Court to invite me learned friend, Paul Kwong\u00a0 Esq, Your Petitioner\u2019s pupil master to robe Your Petitioner.<\/p>\n
