\n1\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0We are\u00a0 different\u00a0 from\u00a0 other\u00a0\u00a0 firms, essentially\u00a0 we place\u00a0 much emphasis upon\u00a0 the mini-pupillage or\u00a0 attachment<\/a>, as we call it in Malaysia.\u00a0\u00a0 Normally\u00a0 a candidate will\u00a0 have\u00a0 to undertake an assessed\u00a0 mini-pupillage\/ attachment with us before a candidate is officially being offered a place for pupillage.<\/p>\n

\n2 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0At\u00a0 Alex Chang & Co,\u00a0 we regard assessed\u00a0 mini-pupillage\u00a0 as important both for the firm and for you.\u00a0 From the perspective of the pupils, they will be able to consider whether they would\u00a0 like\u00a0 to spend their pupillage with us, and hopefully, thereafter remain here as legal assistants.<\/p>\n

2.1 \u00a0 \u00a0Every firm has their own working style, ours is one that engages the intellectual\u00a0 side of the young minds and would like you, the pupil to have the opportunity to see that for yourself.<\/p>\n

2.2 \u00a0 This opportunity will save you \u00a0changing master after a short period, set out by an author in this short article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0We \u00a0handpick\u00a0 pupils\u00a0 for assessed mini-pupillage; only those of\u00a0 whom we consider potential pupillage\u00a0 candidates.\u00a0 The candidates who demonstrate\u00a0 inter alia\u00a0 the following qualities which we think there are essential\u00a0 for\u00a0 a successful advocate:<\/p>\n

3.1 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0A love for company law and litigation\/ dispute resolution;<\/p>\n

3.2 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0A keen eye for details;<\/p>\n

3.3 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Ability\u00a0 to present\u00a0 clear and persuasive\u00a0 arguments on a set of given facts and law under pressure;<\/p>\n

3.4 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Analytical & Dynamic thinking; and<\/p>\n

3.5 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Capable of\u00a0\u00a0 understand, and show understanding of\u00a0 the\u00a0\u00a0 needs and problems of those\u00a0 for whom and with whom they work;<\/p>\n

3.6 \u00a0 \u00a0 An extremely good command of the English language.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

3A \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0From our point of view,\u00a0 we\u00a0 would\u00a0 like\u00a0 to know you,\u00a0\u00a0 the pupillage candidates better.\u00a0 It will not be\u00a0 in\u00a0 either our interests or those applying to us that we make our decisions\u00a0 merely\u00a0 on the basis of an application form together with your curriculum vitae, and interaction at the interview.\u00a0 We think that a\u00a0 more\u00a0 detailed\u00a0 assessment is fairer to candidates.<\/p>\n

4 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Mini-pupillage\u00a0 enables\u00a0 candidates to have an insight\u00a0\u00a0 of the work we do<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Mini-pupils will be given opportunity to be exposed as follows:<\/p>\n

4.1 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Mini-pupils will be given a\u00a0 file to read;<\/p>\n

4.2 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0be invited to present their\u00a0 opinion, thoughts\u00a0 or\u00a0 views with respect to the particular file which they have read;<\/p>\n

4.3 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0be involved\u00a0 with on-going matters,\u00a0 for instance, to conduct\u00a0 research on certain issues;<\/p>\n

4.4 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0to attend\u00a0 court together\u00a0 with counsel\u00a0\u00a0 to witness\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the proceedings.<\/p>\n

5 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0An\u00a0 assessed\u00a0 mini-pupillage normally involves pupils\u00a0 spending a week\u00a0 in the\u00a0\u00a0 firm.<\/p>\n

6 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Given\u00a0 the importance we\u00a0 place on\u00a0 mini-pupillage,\u00a0 we\u00a0 encourage candidates to apply for (and if feasible undertake) an assessed\u00a0 mini-pupillage\u00a0 before making their pupillage application.<\/p>\n

6.1 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0We\u00a0 accept the applications for assessed mini-pupillage for\u00a0 those who has completed\u00a0 their Certificate of Legal Practice or Bar or any equivalent qualifications.<\/p>\n

10 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Again places are limited and we are only able to offer unassessed mini-pupillages to applicants who demonstrate exceptional qualities.
