If it pleases your Lordship,
I, Lye Wing Voi, appear on behalf of your humble Petitioner, Deryl Lim Yan Hong. May I have the honor of introducing your Petitioner
1 Your Petitioner, Deryl Lim Yan Hong, was born and raised in the city of Penang. His proud parents are Patrick Lim and Rachel Chan. May I seek your permission to introduce them.
2 Your Petitioner, once an academically challenged student, achieved his dream of becoming a lawyer through unwavering perseverance and a profound passion for justice. Professors and mentors, such as his Pupil Master, guided him, and he embraced a rigorous study routine, overcoming numerous challenges and setbacks. His determination led to his graduation from law school, a testament to his transformation from a struggling student to a successful legal professional.
3 He completed and achieved a Second Class Honours in the Upper Division for his law degree in Nottingham Trent University, in the United Kingdom. He then pursued his Bar Professional Training Course in Manchester Metropolitan University of Manchester, which he successfully completed in March 2021.
4 Due to the pandemic, Your Petitioner’s call to the Bar of England and Wales was delayed until March 2022. He began his pupillage in the chambers of my learned friend, Mr. Alex Chang, at Alex Chang & Co. on December 6, 2022.
5 The famous quote by Lord Denning, “Justice delayed is justice denied,” underscores the urgency of a swift legal process. In a world where law and justice move at a quick pace, the Petitioner is immensely grateful for the opportunities provided by his Pupil Master, who brought him to court many times during his 9-month tutelage. Witnessing trial proceedings, compelling arguments, and the electrifying atmosphere inside the courtroom was an invaluable learning experience that deepened his understanding of the legal profession and ignited a passion for the pursuit of justice that he will carry throughout his career.
6 My Lord, I am confident that Your Petitioner received exceptional tutelage and guidance from his Pupil Master.
7 Your Petitioner would like to express his gratitude to his family, especially his parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lims, who are present today. They have been the petitioner’s pillars of strength and a constant source of motivation. They are devoted role models who tirelessly impart wisdom, offer unconditional affection, and provide selfless support, instilling essential values and shaping the Petitioner’s character. To all his family members, the love and encouragement have been his driving force throughout his life, and the petitioner is forever grateful for their support and sacrifices. This achievement is as much theirs as it is the Petitioner’s. Thank you.
8 Your Petitioner sincerely thanks his Pupil Master, Mr. Alex Chang Huey Wah, a true advocate with the heart of a relentless predator, always driven by the hunger and passion to secure victory in trials. Your Petitioner would also like to extend his gratitude to the wonderful legal assistant, Ms. Lim Wen Mi, a wise, sharp, and young advocate in the making. To the two of them, their guidance has been nothing short of transformative. Their commitment to his development and the trust you placed in him will forever be etched in his heart.
9 Additionally, Your Petitioner is filled with gratitude for the patient guidance and assistance provided by his colleagues at Alex Chang & Co., making his experience there a memorable one.
10 Finally, the petitioner would like to thank all his friends for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
11 My Lord, based on the training that the Petitioner has undergone throughout the nine months, I have no doubt whatsoever that he is indeed a fit and proper person to be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
12 I believe that your Petitioner’s papers are in order and that the Attorney General’s Chambers, the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee respectively have no objections.
13 I humbly pray for an order in terms that your Petitioner, Deryl Lim Yan Hong be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
[AFTER THE ORDER IS GRANTED BY THE COURT]I am very much obliged My Lord,
I request leave from this Honorable Court to allow Mr. Alex Chang Huey Wah, the petitioner’s Pupil Master to robe the petitioner.
