Admission to the Malaysian Bar (Long Call) Speech

ADMISSION SPEECH FOR MACY CHONG MEI ZHI
If it pleases you My Lady,
I, Rozana Meili Bt Abdullah appear for the Petitioner, and my learned
friends representing the relevant bodies have been introduced
earlier. Your Petitioner is the youngest child of Mr. Chong Swee and
Madam Chang Hoi Ling. Your Petitioner’s father is a businessman
and her mother is a housewife.
My Lady,
Your Petitioner was conferred a Bachelor of Laws degree, with
second class honours, upper division from the University of
Northumbria in the United Kingdom in 2008. Your Petitioner then
proceeds to obtain her Certificate in Legal Practice.
Your Petitioner has more than one pupil master, she eventually chose
to complete her pupilage under the tutelage of my learned friend Alex
Chang Huey Wah Esq from Messrs. Alex Chang & Co who is the
author/contributors of many publications including the Companies
Winding Up Handbook.
As a pupil of Alex Chang Esq, she was encouraged to read a book
named “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. There is an
interesting chapter called “The Dutch Uncle”, it refers to a person who
gives you an honest feedback. She would like to call her master as
the Dutch Uncle without hesitation because he taught her not only law
and also honest feedback. Thus Mr. Chang was looking after her
personal development as well. From Mr. Chang, she realized that
language is everything. She told me all this are not taught in the
books.
My Lady,
On this memorable day Your Petitioner, she seizes this opportunity to
record her appreciation to her parents, Mr. Chong Swee and Madam
Chang Hoi Ling, for the endless tender love and care, undivided
financial and moral support.
A special thanks to her sister Mei Yuen, her brothers, Yee Kang and
Yee Horng, for their guidance and support which Your Petitioner told
me happened more often than the average girl next door. Your
Petitioner is also indebted to her friends, Miss Lim Sin Tian, Miss Tan
Yun Yi, Miss Lim Jia Yin, Miss Koh Hui Mei, Miss Teo Yevon, Miss
Min Lee Boo, Miss Pattaranee Guptabutra for sharing her joys and
sorrows during her law studies and pupilage.
Your Petitioner also wish to express her gratitude to Miss Jo Tan, for
her untiring guidance, support and all her colleagues in Messrs Alex
Chang & Co for making her time while reading in chambers such a
meaningful and unforgettable experience.
Finally, thank you again to her master, Alex Chang Esq, her Dutch
Uncle, and to her other master, Lee Teck Hock Esq, and all her
colleagues in Messrs. Lee & Chong. Your Petitioner wishes me to
special mention for the guidance given to her by Chong Kah Heng
Esq, Miss Irene Tan, and Miss Amanda Teoh from Messrs. Lee &
Chong.
My Lady,
I believe that Your Petitioner’s papers are in order and the relevant
bodies have no objections. Wherefore I humbly pray that Your
Petitioner be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of
High Court of Malaya. I am obliged.
Wait For The Order.
I seek leave from this Honourable Court to invite my learned friend,
Alex Chang Esq, Your Petitioner’s pupil master to robe Your Petitioner.
