Admission to the Malaysian Bar (Long Call) Speech
Name: YOU PEI CHI
Date : NOVEMBER 21, 2011
Admission Speech of Miss You Pei Chi as an Advocate and
Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
If it pleases you, My lady,
ALEX CHANG HUEY WAH, appear for the Petitioner, YOU
PEI CHI and my learned friends representing the Attorney
General, The Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar
Committee have already been introduced earlier.
Before I move the court for the usual Order, allow me a few
minutes to briefly introduce Your Petitioner to Your
Ladyship and all concerned.
Your Petitioner is the 3rd child of Mr & Mrs You Kiam Tiam.
Her father is a businessman who is running a construction
and furniture business while her mother is a home maker.
Both of her parents are proud of the fact that Your
petitioner is going to be the second lawyer in the family; the
first being Miss You Pei Fung.
My Lady,
Your Petitioner graduated from the Oxford Brookes
University, United Kingdom. During her time in the United
Kingdom, she travelled widely in and around England.
So I poped the question, of the cities you have been, which
one do you like best, she picked Manchester from the likes
of Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Paris, Luxemburg,
Prague, Vienna, Rome and Venice.
She also told me as a music lover, she paid homage to
Mozart at his yellow house in Vienna.
I had to ask, which one is the most romantic city? Venice,
she said without any hesitation, but the most handsome
men are found in Rome. Please do not ask her if she did it
as the Romans do.
After completing her European Tour, Your Petitioner sat for
the Certificate in Legal Practice Exams in 2010. Your
Petitioner then read and completed her pupilage in the
chambers of Mr. Yau Wai Leong of Messrs Chan &
Associates. Your Petitioner gained much exposure in Civil
and Commercial litigation, having assisted and attended in
matters from the Magistrates’ court right up to the Federal
Court. She is eternally grateful to Mr Yau. I told her that,
what she has been through is more than what most people
can ask for.
My Lady,
Your Petitioner would like to take this opportunity to
express her gratitude, first and foremost to her parents, who
stood by her be it rain shine or for the present monsoon
season, the most fashionable disaster, flood. She said her
parents are Always there without fail and with no terms and
conditions. She also like to thank her siblings especially
Sharon, Penny,Ve learn and also teachers, lecturers and
friends who have always been the pillars of support for
Your Petitioner.
My Lady,
I verily believe that all papers are in order and that Your
Petitioner is a fit and proper person to be admitted and
enrolled as an advocate & solicitor of the High Court of
Malaya. I also verily believe that my learned friends have no
objections to this Petition.
Therefore, My Lady,
I humbly pray for an order in terms.
Wait for the Order.
Much obliged, My Lady
May I seek leave from this Honourable Court for My learned
friend Mr. Yau Wai Leong, the pupil master of Your
Petitioner to robe Your Petitioner.
