I, Alex Chang Huey Wah appear for the Petitioner, and my learned friends representing the relevant bodies have been introduced earlier. Your Petitioner is the eldest child of Mr. Ling Ting Hee and Madam Leu Sit Fong. Your Petitioner’s father is a businessman and her mother is a teacher who are both present here today.
Your Petitioner’s parents had flew 600 miles from Kuching, Sawarak to witness the long-awaited moment of their eldest daughter being finally admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
Your Petitioner has shared a thing or two about herself with me which I, in turn would like to share with everyone here today. Since she was a little girl, it has always been the Petitioner’s ambition to become a lawyer. In fact, she has never once changed her mind about it. Although, she has never doubted the choice she has made, truth to be told, there were times when she had wanted to give up in pursuing her dream of becoming a lawyer.
However, thanks to the encouragement and support of her loved ones, she never gave up and held on strongly to the belief that all her hard work and effort would finally pay off one day. My Lady, that one day has finally arrived and it is today.
So much about the dreams.
Your Petitioner was conferred a Bachelor of Laws degree, with second class honours, upper division from the University of Aberystwyth in the United Kingdom in 2012 and thereafter proceeded to obtain her Certificate in Legal Practice in 2014.
Your Petitioner has completed her pupilage under the tutelage of my learned friend, Mr Gan Khong Aik from Messrs. Gan Partnership.
On this memorable day, Your Petitioner wishes to seize this opportunity to record her utmost appreciation to her parents, Mr Ling Ting Hee and Madam Leu Sit Fong, for the endless tender love and care, unconditional financial and moral support which they have never failed to give and provide to the Petitioner in pursuing her dream of becoming an advocate and solicitor. No words can ever describe how grateful the Petitioner is for having such loving, supportive and understanding parents. Nonetheless, the Petitioner wishes to proclaim to her parents once more, “Thank you, mum and dad for everything!”
Also, the Petitioner is indebted to the other family members in particular her grandparents, brother and sister. Also, to her friends who are always there for her, to share the ups and downs of her life.
Your Petitioner also wish to express her gratitude to the guidance, help and support of all the lawyers and staff in Messrs Gan Partnership who has made her journey as a pupil such a memorable and unforgettable experience.
Last but not least, the Petitioner would like to thank her pupil master, Mr Gan Khong Aik for the precious experience, knowledge and skills which he has taught the Petitioner through his patient guidance and support during her pupillage.
From the bottom of the Petitioner’s heart, she sincerely thank you all who are present here today for being a part of her life and sharing this significant moment with her.
Before her admission I shared this quote with her. I hope it will assist her in charting her path in our wonderful career.
“Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do.
I believe that Your Petitioner’s papers are in order and the relevant bodies have no objections. Wherefore I humbly pray that Your Petitioner be admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. I am obliged.
[wait for the order]
May I seek leave from this Honourable Court for My learned friend Gan Khong Aik Your Petitioner’s pupil master to robe Your Petitioner.
We are obliged.
